A brief summary of items that may be of interest to the community follows below.

• Cr Geoff Ellis moved a motion “That Council confirm that the implementation of livestreaming of Council Meetings is a success, ceases the current six-month trial, does not ask for a report on its effectiveness, and resolves to continue livestreaming all of Council’s Ordinary and Special Meetings into the future.”
After some debate, this motion failed so the continuation of livestreaming is, at this time, still on a trial basis only.
• Council has agreed to further action to ensure the Holden Proving Ground at Lang Lang becomes protected bushland. They will:
– Request an urgent meeting with the Minister for Planning to discuss options for protection of the site.
– Advocate for the protection of the site through formal recognition and – protection within the Statement of Planning Policy.
– Request a report be prepared for the August 2020 Council meeting identifying options for the environmental protection of the site.
– Advocate to the Federal Government to purchase the property.
• A planning permit application 190324 for a two lot subdivision and vegetation removal located at 27 McRae Avenue Cowes was considered. Council refused this permit as it was considered, amongst other factors, that it did not respect the neighbourhood character of the area and was an overdevelopment of the site having unacceptable impacts on native vegetation, visual amenity and landscape.

• Counicl progressed the rezoning of land at 126 Shetland Heights Road, San Remo to ensure that the most appropriate planning provisions apply to the site following the failed Bass Resort Development.
• Council has committed to the Local Government Power Purchase Agreement project by joining with partner councils in a tender process, brokered by Darebin City Council, to find the best offer available in the market.
• Council has approved a significant variation to its Waste Contract, prompted by the increase in cost to process co-mingled and organic recycling collected in Bass Coast by Wonthaggi Recyclers. (This was previously considered at the June Meeting and was the subject of a recent article in the media)
• Council released the draft Governance Rules 2020 including the revised Election Period Policy 2020 for community engagement to receive written feedback between Thursday 16 July to Thursday 30 July 2020. They will then be considered at the 19 August 2020 Ordinary Meeting.
